Free ASO character counter

Count App Store and Google Play title, subtitle, keywords, and description limits with live character counts. Over-limit warnings and field rules so nothing gets truncated at submission.

Shown above the description. Not indexed, but updatable without a new build.

Release notes shown with each update.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is stored, uploaded, or sent to any server.

FAQ

Apple App Store limits: app name 30 characters, subtitle 30, keywords field 100, promotional text 170, description 4,000, and What's New (release notes) 4,000.

The App Store subtitle character limit is 30 characters. It is indexed for search along with the app name and keywords field, so treat those 30 characters as ranking copy, not a slogan leftover.

The App Store description character limit is 4,000 characters. Google Play’s full description is also 4,000. Play’s short description is 80 characters and is indexed; Apple’s promotional text is 170 and is not a primary search field.

Google Play limits: app title 30 characters, short description 80, and full description 4,000 characters.

The App Store keyword field character limit is 100 characters, comma-separated, with no spaces after commas. Spaces are allowed inside a phrase such as Real Estate. Do not repeat words already in the name or subtitle.

You get 100 characters total, separated by commas with no spaces between terms. Don't repeat words already used in your app name or subtitle - Apple indexes those separately, so repeating wastes characters.

This counter measures by Unicode code points, so most emoji and accented letters count as a single character - matching how the stores measure your fields. Note that some emoji and the App Store keyword field have additional rules.

No. The counter runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is stored, uploaded, or sent to any server.

Inside the limits. Now audit the whole listing

Fitting 30, 30, and 100 characters is the floor. The ASO workspace in AppGrowthKit checks what a counter cannot: words repeated between your name, subtitle, and keyword field, spaces and filler wasting the keyword field, and how the rest of the App Store listing holds up.

Link your App Store listing to a project for a 0-100 score across seven pillars, with the top fixes ranked by the points they cost. Then rewrite the metadata in a draft that re-scores as you type, next to the screenshots for the same app.

  • Keyword research against the apps that already rank for a search
  • Rank tracking for the keywords you pick
  • Audits App Store listings. Screenshot design covers both stores
